Fall Knitting Magazines Hit the Stands

It always amazes me how every year the weather changes like clockwork towards the end of August. We had a blistering hot summer with many heat waves with temperatures about 90 degrees. Yet here we are at the end of August and fall is in the air. Our daytime temperatures have been perfect, around 80 degrees and at night it cools off considerably. So I wake up to a cooler house and I immediately start thinking about school starting, the leaves changing colors and of course knitting beautiful pieces to keep me warm in the colder weather. With my mind on knitting, I was thrilled when the new fall knitting magazines started to hit my mailbox.

Vogue knitting magazine: Fall 2011

I feel like I just reviewed the Early Fall edition and here I am talking about the Fall issue. With Nordic Gloves adorning the front cover, this issue has a fall feel from first glance. The patterns inside also get you thinking about the colder weather. With hats, gloves and sweaters galore, the Vogue Knitting Fall issue has some beautiful projects to add to your to-do list. There are 3 quick projects that I think I'll be adding to my list. The first is a hooded cowl that is knit with a cabled panel. The second project that caught my eye is a braided cowl.

Yes, I guess it looks like I'll be wearing a lot of cowls this season. That's OK with me because I find them to be great accessories that pair well with turtlenecks and plain shirts. It can be an inexpensive way to dress-up any outfit. Layer a beautiful knit cowl over an inexpensive t-shirt and you've got a look that people will think cost a lot of money. Of course choosing beautiful yarns is the key to making a knit cowl, or any knit wear, look stunning.

The last project that I'll be adding to my list is the Cropped Angora Cardigan whose design is inspired by the adorable cardigan that Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day. This simple, but elegant cardigan complements any outfit. Like the cowls I mentioned above, the key to this project is choosing a luxurious yarn. A soft angora yarn gives this cardigan texture and personality. You can find the pattern for this sweater on the Vogue Knitting website.
